About N2 trillion of inherited liability owed to road contractors by the immediate past government is impeding progress in the sector, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has said.
Speaking at the 22nd meeting of the National Council of Works holding in Katsina, Fashola said the present administration was addressing the issue to fast track the sector.
He said that in 2015 only N18 billion was budgeted for the sector which showed lack of commitment towards addressing the debts, and that this administration budgeted N266 billion and had already paid N73 billion to contractors being owed and mobilised to sites.
