There is outrage in Ghana as the Nana Akufo-Addo led Government has been accused of running a jamboree and “elephant size” government with the appointment of a total of 110 Ministers.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP)  which rode on the change mantra and accused the  previous government of being extravagant has actually broken all previous records of ministerial appointments.

However. the government defended itself against accusations of running an “elephant-sized” government, after new appointments.

The ministries of Information, Energy, Agriculture and Local Government will each have three deputy ministers, if the appointments from newly-elected President are passed.

“We never promised a lean government,” Information Minister Mustapha Hamid told the media in response to the criticism. The size of the government was necessary to assist the president’s ambitious development agenda, he added.

Mr Akufo-Addo was elected on his third attempt to reach the post, after a campaign dominated by the country’s wobbly economy.
