Kogi PDP Cautions Governor Bello Against Anti-Labour Actions

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned Governor Yahaya Bello against proscribing labour unions in Kogi State.

The party cautioned the governor against wielding same stick used on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter of the state-owned university at Anyigba.

The warning comes in the wake of last weekend’s indefinite strike embarked upon by organised labour to protest arrears and poor working conditions.

In a statement yesterday in Lokoja by the State Party Publicity Secretary, Bode Ogunmola, PDP said: “The laughable attempt by government to proscribe ASUU and sack about 200 lecturers at KSU is still fresh in our minds. We call on Bello to rescind that satanic decision and apologise to the affected employees. He should pay workers their emoluments and stop making Kogi a laughing stock in the comity of states.”

Ogunmola took a swipe at the administration for allegedly not prioritising workers’ welfare.

He regretted that with the volume of cash flow to the state through monthly allocations, Paris Club refunds, bail out funds, internally generated revenue (IGR) among others, it still remains enmeshed in this financial crisis.
