Mallam Balarable Saidu, the campaign Director of the governorship candidate of Edo state People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has dumped the party according to a report by Thisday.
Saidu led hundreds of other supporters to decamp to the ruling party at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship campaign at Auchi.
Explaining why he decided to pitch his tent with the APC, Saidu said he spent 10 years in PDP without any meaningful development in the senatorial zone.
The former PDP chieftain said he and his supporters’ children and generations unborn will not forgive them if they failed to work with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who worked assiduously to improve infrastructure like roads, schools and healthcare.
His words: My brothers and sisters from Edo North, I hereby stand before you people with over two thousand persons from the dying PDP to join our Comrade Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, so that more development can come our way.
“Today, Edo North is like small London. With our son, Hon. Philip Shaibu (deputy governorship candidate), joining Godwin Obaseki, heaven is our limit.”
However in a new twist on Thursday, Ize-Iyamu took to Twitter to debunk the news of Saidu’s defection.
“Please disregard any news saying our campaign director has decamped to APC. Zero truth in it. @PdpNigeria remains the party to beat in Edo”, he tweeted.
