Factional PDP Chiefs Meet in Ijebu-Igbo, Endorse Ali Modu Sheriff

Factional leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in South West zone yesterday passed a vote of confidence on the Alli-Modu Sheriff leadership of the party at a meeting in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.

The meeting held without members said to be loyal to the Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party.

In attendance were factional South-West zonal chairman, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, former Senate President, Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu, Alli-Modu Sheriff and his deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojougbo.

Others were Acting National Publicity Secretary, Bernard Niko, former FCT Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Abba Gana, Senator Chris Anyanwu, all of who are said to be loyal to the Alli-Modu Sheriff faction.

Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko and his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayo Fayose, as well as former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, among other leaders who are loyal to the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party, were absent from the meeting.

A communique issued at the end of the meeting, urged party members to eschew their selfish interests and join hands to move the party forward and put it in good stead for the task ahead.

It pleaded with party members to pray for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari in order to continue his anti-corruption crusade.

Senator Alli-Modu Sheriff pledged to work for the progress of the party and return it to the grassroots.

Sheriff, who said he would not be provoked by the Chairman of the party’s Strategy Review Committee, Prof. Jerry Gana, added that he would do everything to frustrate any individual who wants to corner the party for selfish reasons.

Mantu attributed the crisis rocking the party to lack of internal democracy, imposition of candidates and impunity of some individuals within it.
