Uganda, Benin Republic Overtake Nigeria In New FIFA Ranking

Africa Football midgets Uganda and Benin Republic are now ranked above Nigeria as the Super Eagles dropped nine place to rank 70th in the world in the latest FIFA Rankings released on Thursday by the world football governing body.

Nigeria has been witnessing a steady decline on the monthly FIFA Rankings but Thursday’s was new all-time low for the three-time African champions who are now only a shadow of their former selves.

As reflected in the July rankings, Nigeria is now 17th in Africa with 514 points.

On the other hand, Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying rivals Algeria remain the top team in Africa and 32nd in the world, while Cameroon are seventh in Africa and 53rd in the world.

The Eagles are however rated above World Cup foes Zambia, who are 23rd in Africa and 88th in the world.

Argentina remain at the summit of the July Rankings as FIFA stated that a total of 228 ‘A’ internationals contributed to the new order but the Super Eagles were not involved in any international matches last month.

The quartet of Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile in that order joins Argentina to complete the roster of top five teams in the world.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 11 August 2016.
