Boko Haram, have reportedly killed 24 persons in Kuda-Kaya village of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, AFP reports.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the insurgents, in their hundreds, stormed the village at about 10pm on Thursday.

Ten persons were also said to have been injured.

The eyewitness claimed that immediately the incident happened, 18 dead bodies were discovered.

However, six more were discovered in the bush.

He said the majority of persons killed were women and children, while those injured were rushed to Gulak Cottage Hospital for treatment.

Gulak is 3km from Kuda-Kaya village. Another source, who simply identified himself as Amadu, said he counted 18 dead bodies at the scene of the attack, while he also confirmed that 10 others were injured.

Amadu said he believed that more dead bodies were yet to be discovered because some persons fled into the bush with gunshot wounds.

He said the Boko Haram insurgents stormed the village located on the fringes of the dreaded Sambisa forest around 10pm on Thursday, while the villagers were observing a wake keep for a dead member of the community.

Amadu said the Boko Haram members took the villagers by surprise as the community never envisaged such an attack.

The area has not witnessed such attacks in a while.

He said: “They stormed our village on motorbikes and immediately opened fire on the people observing the wake keep.

“As at the last count, 18 people were killed, while about 10 others were injured and were rushed to a health facility in Gulak.”

Confirming the incident, the member representing Michika/Madagali Federal Constituency, Hon. Adamu Kamale, said the number of casualties as at the time of filing this report could not be ascertained, but noted that many members of the community are feared killed.

Also confirming the attack, the Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Othman Abubakar, said: “So far, 18 people have been killed in the attack but the number of the casualties could not be ascertained.”
